Dental Crowns are ideal for protecting a cracked, broken tooth or covering up tooth discolorations. The crown is a tooth shaped cap that fits over a problem tooth to improve strength, size and appearance. It is often used to help strengthen a tooth with a large filling when there is not enough tooth remaining to hold the filling. Crowns can also be used to attach bridges, protect a weak tooth from breaking, or to restore one that is already broken.
First, we will anesthetize the problem tooth area. Once completely numb, the tooth is filed down so that the crown can fit the tooth. We then take an impression of the tooth to use in the construction of the crown. The impression is sent to our dental laboratory to create your crown. We apply a sturdy temporary crown over the problem tooth while your permanent crown is manufactured. Before you leave we will schedule a return visit to the Oak Lane Family Dental where the crown will be applied. It’s one more way we help you maintain a healthy-looking new tooth and a bright smile.
For most minor dental imperfections, the appearance of your teeth can be improved with the application of dental veneers. Veneers are usually porcelain or ceramic and look just like your natural teeth only better. A resin is used to bond the veneer directly to the outside of your tooth providing a permanent solution to your discolored, damaged or misaligned teeth.
